The darkness ever deepens. As you stumble your way through the shadows of the earth and stone, you hear something nearby, the sound of someone walking the halls. You know the sound well, but also that it is not merely your own echo. Someone is truly with you in the labyrinth, traveling the stone mazes.
You call out, your weary footsteps thudding along as you follow the passage in search of your fellow traveler. Turns, crossroads, hallways, alcoves, all of them you pass as you search for this weary soul that wanders with you. The sound seems to always be just a little bit ahead of you, a little out of reach. You run, hoping to catch up with them before they get too lost in the darkness. You sprint and call out, hoping to help them before they lose their way, but you find nothing and no one. Instead, you have simply lost the path you were trying to follow, and are now yourself lost in the darkness.
You pick a path, and continue your journey.
